About Stan

Stan says of himself, “I'm called to serve God with my whole being!”

This drive led the Killebrew family on a quest to find a leadership role for Stan to serve God as a Lead Pastor. After a nationwide search, and a willingness to go wherever God led them, God has lead the Killebrews right back to where He planted them 11 years ago and they could not be happier to be staying right here in the community they love. Recently, Stan has become fond of saying, “It appears God has cut my commute time in half. Isn’t that just like God? What a great God we serve!” His desire is to serve as a pastor with a missionary’s heart in this fertile soil for many years to come!

Adoption is a key part of the Killebrew’s story and has shaped their unique family. 15 years ago (while living in Bloomington, IN - Go Hoosiers!), they felt God's Call to become Indiana Licensed Foster Parents. After fostering some great kids, Stan and Dawn moved their "forever family" home 14 years ago. They brought their youngest home from the hospital as a foster son when he was an infant. 6 months later, when his three older biological half-siblings needed a foster home, they felt a God Nudge that they were called to love them as well. So, they (together with their biological son) adopted a sibling group of 4 kids. When they moved their kiddos home, they had 5 kids, age 4 and under. Those were adventurous times! A saying the Killebrews clung to during those years is, “The days are long, but the years are short.” They are feeling the last part of that statement right now as their oldest two boys are making plans to head to college in the fall.

Stan and Dawn are midwestern people. They were both born and raised in central Illinois. After a brief ministry in Las Vegas at Central Christian Church as newlyweds, they served God at three great midwestern churches; first at First Christian Church in Tuscola, IL (5 years), then at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church in Bloomington, IN (5 years), and, most recently, at Northview Church right here in Hamilton County (11 years). Each ministry experience built on the previous in shaping Stan’s heart to love God’s People; both those already in the church and those who have yet to fall in love with Jesus. Stan believes the story God has been writing with his life has brought him to this moment; to be the next Lead Pastor of Venture Christian Church!

Today, after almost 24 years of marriage and ministry experience, Stan and Dawn have a deep abiding faith that God is in control! He is Lord! Stan firmly believes that our primary job description is to follow and serve Him!

In summary, Stan aims to be a servant-leader who is Christ-like, highly valuing the Word of God and sensitively speaking the language of the culture. The entire Killebrew family is excited to join this church family that is known for loving God and loving others. He is eager to use his gifts to lead Venture in its established mission: “We exist to help more people get to know Jesus and live like him every Day.” Stan looks forward to rolling up his sleeves alongside you and working for the Lord in that mission!
